8th Grade Transition Day
Annual Transition Day was held this year reaching to the 8th grade students versus 11th for past activity. 325 students were in attendance and the day was a huge success. Al Etheredge of Region 9 Workforce Development, Turner Sims of Alabama Dept. of Youth Services, and Honorable George Elbrecht spoke to the students on topics ranging from Attitude is Everything to Being too Good for Drugs. The students also watched a video titled The Choice, highlighting the results of choosing to dropout of school by citizens of Alabama. Southern Expose sang and was enjoyed by all. Door prizes were given out to many of the students and lunch was served at Southern Networks. It was great event, that was well received by all the students.
Outstanding Teacher Award– Elementary & Secondary
We have eighteen applications supporting 9 different teachers from 5 schools. Application deadline was May 31, 2009. The board agreed if guidelines were not properly followed, applications would be voided. A committee will meet to review the applications and make a decision as to the most outstanding applications. The winning teachers will receive both a cash award and a plaque. The awards will be presented at Teacher Institute Day, August 5, 2009.

Wouldn’t it Be Cool Program
Monroeville Kiwanis and the Monroe County Education Foundation have partnered to hold the 4th Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 25 with a shotgun start of 8:30am. The tournament had nine teams enter. Both the Kiwanis and the Foundation will net about $1300 from the event.
